Every week I sit down for a 1-2-1 with a fellow member of BNI North Bay Nipissing Network. One meeting, two people, one honest conversation about their business. Over the years those coffees have introduced me to some of the hardest working, most generous business owners in our region.

The gardens, the gazebo, the patio, and now a new deck were all championed by her so that families have a peaceful, beautiful place to be during the hardest moments of their lives. This morning, I did a BNI North Bay Nipissing Network - Chapter in North Bay one-to-one with Bernadette Lindsay from Nipissing Serenity Hospice / La Maison Sérénité du Nipissing. We started talking about referrals. I left with something different on my mind. Here is what most people in our community do not know. The Ministry of Health funds the clinical side of hospice care through OHIP. If you become palliative and choose to come to the hospice, your medical care is covered. But the hydro bill is not. The groceries are not. The deck they have been raising money to build for two years is not. The Caregivers Kits that Bernadette quietly distributes to family members caring for dying loved ones are not. All of that runs on community donations. It runs on a Golf Tournament on June 12. It runs on a Hike for Hospice in October. It runs on dozens of small donors who learned about the funding gap and stepped in. Bernadette herself runs a meaningful share of the operation by being the kind of leader who shows up everywhere, asks for nothing personal, and quietly carries one of the most important community institutions in North Bay. He's creating 3D walkthrough renderings of landscaping projects before a single shovel hits the ground. His clients can actually see what their yard is going to look like before they commit. That's a game changer. He's also diving headfirst into learning his own marketing. Running his own ads, testing different creative, figuring out what works. Most business owners outsource that stuff without understanding it first. Reggie wants to understand it, then scale it. That's the right order. On top of landscaping, he runs Gateway Snow with a longer season than most. April 15th cutoff and typically starts up sooner. His clients don't have to worry about late storms or early snow.
